On the web, due to constraints on certain types of device, we try as far as possible to be compatible with as many devices, OS and browser versions as possible.

However, there are a number of limitations that may prevent Pillarbox from working properly:

• DRM support
• The use of APIs compatible with Chrome 53, as most smartTV browsers are limited to this version and receive little or no updates

Respecting these limitations wherever possible, Pillarbox makes sure to maximize compatibility on many devices and OSes that would potentially no longer be supported by native platforms.

Pillarbox forks are not endorsed and won’t receive any support.

Finally, Pillarbox will endeavor to follow the videojs guidelines so as not to create a double standard, making it difficult to maintain and evolve.

Adoption of semantic versioning

We follow strict semantic versioning (https://semver.org/):

• The major version number is incremented with breaking changes.
• The minor version number is incremented for releases with backwards compatible added functionality.
• The patch version number is incremented with backwards compatible bug fixes.

Critical vs. non-critical issues

The following are considered critical issues:

• Systematic and easily reproducible crashes.
• Issues affecting playback capabilities for a large number of streams (e.g. no playback of DRM-protected streams possible).
• Mandatory analytics specification updates.
• Severe issues related to new OS or browers releases.

The following are considered non-critical issues:

• New functionalities or desired behaviors.
